Jim Scheuer is a Wisconsin public school instrumental teacher. A native of Mishicot, Wisconsin, and a graduate of the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, he has taught band in the School District of Owen-Withee since 1980. As the only band director in a small school district, he is responsible for the district’s entire band program from sixth-grade beginners through high school. He has served as an adjudicator and clinician for the Wisconsin School Music Association since 1982, and has served on the staff of both the Wisconsin State Honors Band and the Honors Orchestra. In 1992, he was named Teacher of the Year for the Owen-Withee Junior and Senior High School In 2001, Scheuer was selected as a Kohl Teacher Fellowship recipient in the state of Wisconsin, in recognition of educational excellence and innovation.

Among Scheuer’s musical mentors, are Glenn Nelson, his band director at Mishicot; Herb Hardt, advisor and percussion teacher at Lawrence; and Fred Schroeder and Robert Levy, also at Lawrence Conservatory of Music, Appleton, Wisconsin.

A percussion specialist, Scheuer also claims “usable” keyboard and vocal skills. He has worked as a vocalist, keyboard player, arranger and MIDI programmer in rock and variety dance bands since age 16, and vaguely recalls regular public performances dating back to as early as age 6. In his spare time, he works with a variety dance band and operates a small MIDI and digital music recording studio.

Having passed the age of 40 some time ago, Scheuer has officially abandoned his childhood dream of being either the next John Lennon or the next Vince Lombardi.
