TRANSLATION:

1. “The girl was standing alone like a rose blossom, standing, crying, sick of the world. And why are you crying, why do you feel sorry for yourself? How can I not cry and feel sorry for myself? I will not be yours. Hey you, girl, you will be mine. You are like a rose. I am like a raspberry. Your parents will give you to me.”

2. “Whichever virgin is shamed stays far away from the boys. When she cannot, she becomes red like a rose. If you are an honest boy I (ie. sexually), then you stay away from the girls. If the girl turns your way, lower your hat in your face.”

3. “Deep farmyard around which I cannot ride. I cannot foreget you, my boy. I have forgotten the rose, the little rose, but I cannot forget you, good looking fella. I have forgotten all I wanted to, to forget you, only I have to.”

4. “Green meadow, uncut in Velka, where the girls are like raspberries. There are some, not all, who have their eyes black and cheeks red…There are some boys, not all, who have a peacock feather in their hat…”
