I glance back

At the road of my life

A gleaming set of stones

All set together

To create today

I see all of my greatest moments

Where the road glistens

With excellence and beauty

Shining moments

That will forever be embedded

On this path which I travel

Memories of the past

That not only will be in my memory

But engraved in the memories of others

Who are creating their own paths

Now bound to mine

As I have touched their lives

And as I look behind myself

I see obstacles I have overcome

Some, small twigs

Over which I‚ have easily stepped

Others, enormous logs

Of which I have relied

On the help of others to clear my pathway

I breathe the crisp air of life

As I look ahead

I cannot see beyond my own two feet

Firmly planted

In the present

A cool breeze

Swirls around me

As I take a deep breath

And step

                  into

                               the

                                               future ……

This poem is dedicated to Bishop April Larson, an incredible woman who has taught me that whatever life throws at you, no matter how difficult, you can get through it.
