SYMPHONIC SUITE FOR PERCUSSION (“Of Gods and Goddesses”) by Guy A. Kelpin is a symphonic approach for Percussion built on 4 movements connected loosely through several motives. This music is generally abstract. The format of the entire work reflects a structure similar to the Baroque concerto grosso, alternating slow and fast movements. Each section suggests impressions of the character and history of a Greek deity – Aphrodite, Dionysus, Eos, and Hephaestus. The influence of various 20th century composers is evident in the diverse styles within this composition, most notably that of Prokofiev, Debussy, and Holst. Large Percussion Ensemble.
